Goldilocks and The Gap
On Saturday I wanted to do a little Christmas shopping (for myself), so I went to the local mall and found nothing. Actually I found myself looking among shirts and sweaters and jeans with high schoolers. The small town really doesn't have that great of a mall. After looking at Old Navy, American Eagle, and The Buckle, I got really depressed...kids buying clothes that were too young for me. Where does a mid-to-late 20's guy shop?
We have no GAP...but even now I'm thinking I'm growing too old for it.
According to wikipedia... "The name was derived from the growing differences between children and adults--namely "the generation gap"--which reached its peak with the hippie movement."
I ain't no child, adult, or hippie...guess I'm screwed.
So I'm posing this question to you reader types...when is too old to shop at GAP, Banana Republic, etc etc? You can fill in your own stores that you like or that you think are not age appropriate for mid-to-late 20 somethings.

MQB hates clothes shopping! I get depressed when things that I think should be my size...aren't. I'm such a midget that when I find a pair of jeans/pants that actually fits (i.e. I don't have to have them hemmed), I will buy them in three or four different colours just because they fit. And god forbid I need to buy a suit, because if the petite-length bottom fits, then the top won't, because even though I am short, I actually have, you know, breasts, but the people who design women's clothes think that if you are short, you couldn't possibly have any curves...
Uh, ok, here I am, ranting about women's clothes...guess that's not much help to you, is it? Sorry :o(
I hope it's not too late to shop at those stores because I still frequent the Gap and Old Navy, and I'm older than you.
Banana Republic and Express Men though are a tad older than some of them -- or at least are dressier clothes so look less youthful (without being the clearance rack at Montgomery Ward).
Um...I go to the Disney Store.
And L.L.Bean is a favorite of mine too.
I know, I know...go sit in the corner, Dirk -- the grown-ups are talking.
MQB: If I don't get over this cold and get back to the gym, I'll start having breasts and we can go shopping together. It's kind of a shopping complaint post...so you're fine. I've also noticed (in men's clothes) the sizes are getting smaller. A large ain't what it used to be, and it's not just me getting bigger. I need something in between a medium and a large.
Six: You may be older, but you look younger. I left out Express Fashion...I like their stuff (esp when it used to be structure), but it's sooo expensive for my poor ass.
Dirk: There's nothing wrong with LL Bean or the Disney store. As long as you're not getting the little boys and girls to sit on your lap while you try on clothes. What we wear is a statement of who we are...no shame bud
I love Gap the most, but actually have been economizing it (with great results) at Marshalls and TJ Max. My ex worked for Gap and we are the same size, so his 60% employee personal discount came in handy. They actually take your measurements on that discount and require you to use it only on yourself, Friends and Family get a reduced rate. I have tons of Gap still, and they look great (I think anyway)even though I am quite past the mid to late 20's age group.
