Pies, Guys, and Bears Oh My!
Hey all!
My trip to the big city this weekend really gave me mixed results in the fun category. I went up Saturday afternoon, picked up Thom (the guy I used to date recently), and went shopping. I wanted a new shirt to wear on Sunday. Buying for everyone else on Friday made me feel a little left out. It took us longer to find a parking spot and get inside and get out of the parking lot to leave, than it did to do a walkaround, get some lunch, and then pick out a fabulous shirt.
Saturday night's Christmas Concert at church was awesome. Everyone sounded great! It's hard to describe it accurately, but the choir added a black southern gospel style to many of the songs. Pretty cool stuff. Afterwards, the pie social was nice. My caramel pie was a big hit!
Later on, we went to a drag bar which was fun and entertaining...the good ones were really entertaining, making fun of the bad ones was...well fun. That's when things turned not so great for "W". I think not eating much all evening (a slice of pie and some quesadillas), and then having three drinks started the trouble. Actually, I just took a couple of sips from the third drink, which did not taste like the first two cranberry/vodka's I had.
Had I been feeling better, this next part of the story would be much funnier. We ended the night, by hitting a bear, I mean bar, I mean bear bar. Yeah, apparently Saturday night is a huge night for the bear/leather crowd. I got a warning about the atmosphere from Thom on the way there. Yowzers! The pinnacle would have to be seeing men wear those leather fisherman's caps. I'd swear they're only in 'the movies'.
Call me naive, cause I am. I've just never been exposed to that much leather, not even at Wilson's! By that point, I was feeling very nauseous, and not from all the bears and daddies. I was seriously trying not to throw up. After making the rounds of the place for about an hour or so, we left.
Sunday I woke up, still feeling nauseous, and spent the entire church service worrying about having to run to the bathroom. It was a great service too, which I could only half enjoy. After lunch with some church friends, I still wasn't feeling great, and decided to come on home, rather than going to the Choir Concert again and to a Christmas party.
This morning I feel better, but not great. There's still a 'pit in my stomach' feeling. I went to cycling this morning too, after a three week hiatus.
Anyhoo, a week till Christmas...YIKES!
Take care,
"W"

I hope you feel 100% soon. Sucks being sick around the holidays.
Glad to hear the concert and your pie were big hits.
You went cycling with a residual hangover...you are definitely made of tougher stuff than MQB, lol.
Glad your pie was a hit -the recipe sounds delicious. If I ever get over this damned cold and have some energy again, I might get up the wherewithall to make it myself.
Ok, the silly straight woman is about to display her general ignorance of things gay: what's a bear? Bears in bars sounds a bit scary, lol -I mean, are we talking pandas, grizzlies, polar bears, koalas...? (ok that last part was just a weak joke made by a delirious/feverish person):o)
Katrina: Thanks for the get well wishes. I'm better today. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
MQB: I'm not sure I was hungover...more like crazy and depressed rolled into one. I'm over that part of it all. A bear is what we gays call big burly men, more than likely hairy too. A cub is a younger version of the bear...or not a full fledged bear. An otter is a thinner version of the bear...pretty hairy too of course.
Get well soon, and make that pie!
Oh, "W"...you should attend IML (International Mister Leather) next May! Oh the fun we would have...
Tee-hee.
And thank heavens the holidays are almost over.
